Very good last night. Dalo has not ruled out returning to management in Clare in the future. Never knew he had a Derby winning dog ?

Great program. He had a muck savage head alright but he was a fair man to step up and take that free at the end of the 95 AI Final....
Fcuk it, over a decade ago.
Fingers O Connell was a gas man, what a stride...

Repeated tonight- Friday, HOD.
Great show last night, a true gent. Daly was a remarkable breed, I don't think I ever saw him being hooked either which shows a great Hurling brain.

Fingers O'Connell is what we call in Cork a halfbreed. We only deal with thoroughbreeds in our area.

" ... A Uachtarain, a Uachtarain Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Ta athas an domhain orm an corn Liam McCarthaigh seo a ghlacadh ar son foireann iomani as contae an Chlair. There's been a missing person in Clare for 81 long years. Well today, that person has been found alive and well. And that persons name is Liam McCarthy. In that long period, you the people of Clare and every person who ever wore the saffron and blue with pride, has suffered much. We have listened to many many jibes down through the years. We were told to stick to our traditional music. Well, in Clare we love our traditional music, but we love our hurling as well. 1995 will go down in history as the greatest year in Clare GAA. That 1995 became that year was no accident. Many people are due many thanks so that today might have become a reality. And I think first and foremost at this time of the many great Clare teams down through the years who never, many of those teams were better than this Clare team but they were never as fortunate as we were. Now we accept this Liam McCarty Cup on behalf of all those teams who ever wore the Clare jersey. As I said many tributes are due to many people and it's very hard to name out everybody. I think I covered a lot of people in the Munster Final speech but the County Board and our Sponsor Pat O'Donnell deserve special mention. Our medical people, Dr Padraig Quinn, Dr. Conor Fanning, Colm Flynn and two others that I think of Ursula Loughnane and Joe Joe Horan. But mostly I suppose on this great day, tribute is due to three great men. Firstly to our selector and mentor and the man for whom at many stages he kept the ship afloat - the man from Cratloe, Tony Considine. The man who drove us to hell and back and broke our backs in Shannon, in Crusheen, everywhere we trained - the Scariff publican, the great Michael McNamara. And finally, the man who would die and has died for Clare hurling and so that this day, his obsession might become a reality. A man who gave every last drop of sweat and blood he has, the great Ger Loughnane. Its going to be one hell of a week and we look forward to seeing ye in Ennis tomorrow night. Finally, we say to Offaly - for many years you have been our inspiration. We looked at your success story and said "why can't we achieve that?" And we thank you sincerely for a great struggle today. And we know that Offaly hurling is so strong now that it'll be back again. Three cheers for Offaly. Hip,hip ... hip,hip ... hip,hip ... come on the Banner" Anthony Daly [ 'Dalo' ] 3rd September 1995 www.clarehurlers.com Archive All Irelands

Jesus a tear in my eye reading that again Matt. What a legend is Dalo. That day and Munster winning the European Cup were the greatest days of my life anyway.

Thanks for that admin.
Must say personally nothing will ever top the Munster final win over Limerick in 95, even the All-Ireland.
As for best celebration, after we won the football in 92 I was in pubs that week in town I’d never of dreamt of setting foot in. I always say to outsiders who want to reminisce about 95 that the 92 Football celebration was more than an adequate warm up. In many ways because it was our first it was the best.

In many ways because it was our first it was the best. my father recalls having to step over bodies asleep on the pavement in ennis after the 1992 final. my best gaa moment as a fan is the clare team bursting onto the pitch in croke park v the dubs in 1992. when you consider dublins fan base to see three sides of the ground explode with safron and blue clad fans on their feet was an incredible moment. a former bane of my life used to life next door to mick deegan and he used to always talk about that as one of his best football memories.

Daly was the original hurling Wummer. That Whipping Boy line was a classic. I never saw a crowd get as worked up for so long as the Tipp folk did over that. Clare really had Tipp in a vice like psychological grip all the way during that period.
Good programme I enjoyed it. Daly, a most underrated hurler and the best hurling captain I've seen in my lifetime.

Clare really had Tipp in a vice like psychological grip all the way during that period. That's a bit unfair on Clare. They were better than Tipp and everyone else for a couple of years because they had a lot of really good hurlers. To say there was some psychological factor in it is like saying Clare were not the best team. They were. They should have been able to put Tipp away a lot handier at the time so I think Clare might have had their own psychological issues.
